Megan Fox: A Poor, Beautiful Damsel.

Every once in a while, something comes around that shocks and disgusts me. Today, it was Escquire magazine author Stephen Marche.

MeganFoxBeforeAndAfter

^^Megan Fox Before & After her Plastic Surgery^^

Marche wrote an article about Megan Fox and her difficulties as a very beautiful woman. Her face is perfectly symmetrical and bombshell beauties like her are becoming an antiquity.

[ Related: Women Who Kick Cinema Butt ]

According to Marche: “Women no longer need to be beautiful in order to express their talent.” Lena Dunham and Adele and Lady Gaga and Amy Adams are all perfectly plain, and they are all at the top of their field.”

[ Celebs Without Makeup or Photoshop ]

First off: Who the hell is Stephen Marche to assume he is the authority on what beautiful is? Secondly: last time I checked, you didn’t need to look like Megan Fox to have a wonderful singing voice, an amazing performance on screen, OR to be beautiful for that matter.

But Marche feels we’ve lost something  “Because creativity is, was, and always will be sexual.”

So ladies, if you have one hair out of place or if you are not Megan Fox, just go ahead and throw in the towel.

I realize this post is sounding very much like a rant (and basically, it is) but I decided that if word doesn’t get out about this, then people (like Stephen Marche) will continue having their shallow & small minded thoughts. Maybe he will stumble across my (or one of the many) articles on the topic and start living in 2013. Where women don’t live in a kitchen and are also allowed to vote.

How To Choose an Outfit (The Man’s Guide)

How to Choose an Outfit (A Man's Guide)

I know that for many men, choosing an outfit can be difficult. Our society spends so much time focusing on women’s fashion, that men can feel a little confused and maybe even left out. Just keep in mind, there are plenty of options available for men to choose from. If you’re feeling like your closet is a bit sparse, splurge on a few new wardrobe choices for yourself. This is a gift that will keep on giving.

Consider These Things when Choosing an Outfit For The Day:

1) What is the Weather like today?

If it’s a chilly day out, be sure to wear long pants, a jacket and a nice scarf to go with the ensemble. Also, I highly recommend gloves and maybe even a trapper hat- if you’re feeling adventurous.

2) Who will I run into?

If  you’re going out and about to run errands such as washing the car and going to the grocery store, you probably don’t want to wear a blazer and dress pants. Just keep in mind, you never know who you might run in to; A business colleague, a beautiful woman? One must always be prepared. Just remember you’ll want to look presentable; Just in case.

3) What do Women Want?

I’ll be honest, women can be just as superficial as men when it comes to noticing a potential mate. You like a girl with curves? Perhaps a tight skirt with some nice long legs? Well I have news for you: We like those well fitted (not skinny) jeans and some broad shoulders with that nice button up shirt. When we are picking a man out of the line up, you’ll want to stand out.

4) How Important is it for you to look Professional?

Are you currently job hunting? Or looking for prospective clients? A nice outfit can go a long way when trying to make a positive and memorable first impression.

For those of you boggled by the fashion world, don’t worry. Once you get the hang of it, picking out clothes will be a fun experience. If you’re stumped for ideas, or need a little inspiration- Feel free to check out my Pinterest boards specifically for Men’s fashion.

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to comment below or email me directly.

To Shave, or Not to Shave. That IS the question.

If I’m being honest, the debate over facial hair has been going on for like… ever.

I imagine having a beard or a goatee can bring a sense of comfort and maybe even confidence. Similar to the feeling many people have when wearing sunglasses.

You might be on the fence about whether or not you should sport some hair on your face. The truth is, this all comes down to personal preference and functionality. Below I’ve provided some insight that might help you answer the big question.

Is it Functional? Let’s face it, if it’s 100 degrees outside in the middle of July, do you really want to mess with an itchy sweaty beard? That doesn’t sound very fun to me. Which brings me to my next point:

[  RELATED: 5 Reasons Men Practice Good Skincare  ]

Is it the Season? It turns out- you CAN have the best of both worlds. One of my favorite teachers in High School used to keep a beard for half the year. You can always wear a beard/ goatee for the chilly Winter months and keep a clean shave for the warmer ones.

Does it Work for Your Better Half? Some women are crazy for a goatee or full on beard; but does your girl feel that way? Or does the woman you’re seeking feel that way? Now let me be clear, I am not saying you should base your appearance preferences solely on what your girlfriend likes. I’m merely making the point that many men like to take that into account… Especially if you want to avoid giving her beard burn after a smooch.

Is it Appropriate? There are some scenarios in which you just can’t have facial hair. Maybe your job doesn’t allow it, or you have a function to attend in which part of the dress code is to be clean shaven. In this case, the decision is made for you.

What To Do if Your Boyfriend “Hates” When You Wear Makeup

I know this is a common problem for many women. There are quite a few guys out there that say they “hate” makeup… Whether they have some notion that women who wear makeup are fake, or that only unattractive women wear makeup.. I have pretty much heard it all.

First of all, it’s your face and your wallet- so if you wanna wear makeup that is your choice. Obviously it wouldn’t be right for you to have to change your appearance just because of your BF’s preferences. With that being said, there are a few things you can do to get your boyfriend to be a little more makeup friendly and ease up on the comments about your makeup.

1) When he asks you something along the lines of “Why do you wear makeup” you can simply let him know that you enjoy the application process (much like an artist enjoys painting) and express your love for colors and texture. (It wouldn’t hurt to make a comparison to something similar that he likes- perhaps the rims on his car?)

2) If your boyfriend makes false accusations such as: “Fake Girls Wear Makeup” or “You Only Wear It Because you Feel Unattractive” I would go ahead and point out that you DO wear makeup, and ask him if he thinks you’re fake. (I’m not promoting World War 3 here, but I mean- come on!)

3) If your boyfriend sincerely prefers your face without makeup and requests it, maybe you could find some common ground and have an “All Natural” date day. This is similar to when women ask men to shave (or not, in some cases). Maybe he’s trying to play out a fantasy in his head. He can be Tarzan- you can be Jane :)

[ Related: How to Tell Your Skin Type ]

4) There are also the men that claim “They’ve never liked women who wear makeup” (Yeah, right). In this instance I would remind him how fond he is of you, and that you DO wear makeup. Next,  this is your opportunity to Google some images of his favorite female celebrities and point out exactly how much makeup they are wearing.

Although many men don’t understand what wearing makeup is actually about, most will see your side of things if you explain it correctly to them. This typically means being very logical or trying your best to speak their language.

*Note: If you’re dating someone who causes you to have low self esteem or who is making rude remarks about your appearance, you need to shop around for a new man. We’re all beautiful. with or without makeup.

Feminists Don’t Wear Makeup and Other Misconceptions

I’ve been studying feminism for a  few years now and i’ve been a feminist my entire life. It’s amazing the sort of things you hear from people in regards to Feminism. Here are some of my favorites:

“All Feminists are Lesbians.”

 “Feminists Don’t Wear Makeup.”

“If You Practice Feminism, Then You Burn Your Bras.”

“If You’re a Feminist, That Means You Hate Men.”

“Men Can’t Be Feminists.”

“We Want MORE than Men.”

“Feminism is Obsolete.”

“Feminist Men Are Always Gay.”

The above quotes  take the cake on the subject of ignorance. Feminists don’t want to take over the world, Force your children into homosexuality, or dominate the Male sex.

[Related: Celebrity Photos Without Photoshop]

Being a Feminist is about the choice to make your own decisions; *Respecting yourself. It’s about being Separate but Equal to Men. It’s about believing you should make the same amount of money as your male co-worker for doing the same work. Last but not least, Feminism is about being comfortable with who you are and what you look like. We are all individuals, not cookie cutters. We are all beautiful.

If I wanna wear lipstick and purple eyeshadow, that’s my choice. If I don’t wanna wear a damn thing on my face, that’s still my choice. It doesn’t make me less of a Feminist, in fact- it’s what MAKES me a Feminist :)

When you Really Think About the Facts, Feminism isn’t very radical. It’s just realistic.

As the Author of this beauty blog, I want my readers to know how much I support Feminism. It’s an important subject to me and i’d be happy to discuss the topic or answer any questions. Just use that little “contact” tab to the left on the homepage or message me via Facebook.

Vintage Ads Show No Love for Skinny Girls

If you can believe it, there was a time when being slender wasn’t marketed in a positive light. Once upon a time there were ads all over telling women that they can gain weight and be sexy just like those naturally curvy girls. It’s interesting to look at some of these ads because we are just now coming to a point where Curvy women are shown on the covers of magazines. I hope someday the media can find a balance that accepts everyone as beautiful.

5 Quick Ways to Relax and Control Stress

Everyone knows life can be stressful. You may have lost your job recently, or are going through a tough personal time. Whatever the circumstance, you have to have methods of coping through stress. It’s important to remember that you’re strong and will get through the bad times. Here are 5 ways to relax quickly:

Tea: Drinking tea is a mild natural sedative. I can’t help but feel relaxed and centered after a nice cup of hot tea. Even when I was young, and I disliked the bitter taste of tea, it was still so soothing when I was sick or upset. If you find it tough to motivate yourself to have a cup, try giving yourself a simple goal: Just finish half a cup, and you can pour the rest out. You might have a good time discovering the different tea flavors out there.

Breath: This tends to get taken for granted quite often, but you can actually manipulate your body into relaxing. Try taking steady deep breaths with your stomach- not your chest. Human beings can build anxiety when they try to breath with just their chest. We use our stomach to breath when we are most relaxed.

Count: It might seem a bit silly to count out loud, but this can really help you get your emotions under control. Even counting silently in your head is beneficial. Sometimes we react to a situation out of surprise, before we can really put it into perspective. If you give yourself a moment to focus on something else, like counting, you might feel a little more rational about the situation.

Walk: Many people go on walks when they’re unhappy or anxious, but for those of you that don’t, you’re really missing out. When you get outside in the fresh air with the sun and the trees it creates an uplifting environment. You’d be surprised how much your mood will brighten after just 30 minutes.

Talk to Somebody: Having a shoulder to cry on or an ear that will listen can be really helpful in times of stress. Sometimes you just have to get what’s on your mind out in the open. If you think speaking to the person that is stressing you out could make problems worse, try talking to a close friend or family member. Just be sure to choose someone who is unbiased and who cares about your feelings. Choosing someone you trust is important because some people can take situations out of context or be overly judgmental. The last thing you need is someone riling you up more than you already are.

Celebrities with No Photoshop or Touch Ups

Are Curvy Girls Finally being Accepted into Main Stream Fashion?

Stars Who Said “NO” to Photoshop

How nice it is to see some wonderful celebrities who are more than comfortable with how they look un-retouched. Recently there were some fantastic photos released showing stars photoshop free. A few names shown were:

  • Cate Blanchettwho in my opinion looks so distinguished. I hope to pull that off at 42.
  • Taylor Swift, who appeared unretouched and 100% makeup free in People Magazine’s 2008 “100 Most Beautiful People” Issue. As if we needed another reason to love this beautiful girl.
  • Britney Spears, who is a long time face of Candies was very unhappy about the retouching done to her photos. To show how proud she was of her body, and how unrealistic ads can be, she requested the original photos be released. Check them out side by side below. You really have to pay close attention to her legs to see a barely-there difference anyway.
  • Kim Kardashian, When Complex accidentally posted an unretouched photo of her to their website, readers immediately trashed Kim for having a little cellulite. Complex replaced the photo, but Kim posted the original to her website. “So what: I have a little cellulite,” she wrote on her blog. “What curvy girl doesn’t?”

Despite certain media outlets (like Redbook magazine) insisting that their retouching of a Faith Hill photo was “completely in line with industry standards”. As if that were the point! There have been many stars who were unhappy to see their photos tinkered with.

Why do we all need to look like a Barbie doll? In the real world, who wants to resemble plastic?

In a previous article, we celebrated Elle Magazine  for featuring plus size model Tara Lynn on the front cover (typically unheard of for the majority of magazines). With changes like these on the rise, it would seem many of us are making a huge leap in the right direction. Taylor Swift No Photoshop

How to Celebrate Women’s Day!

For obvious reasons, i’m super happy to be celebrating today. This post is a little later than i’d like it to be,  but better than never right?

It’s nice to know women have at least one day a year dedicated to them. And not just because they are a mom or a sister.

I spent most of today with one of my best friends. Unfortunately I had a lot of work to get done but she was awesome enough to help me with it. I hope you have a special girl in your life to celebrate with- even if all you do is run errands all day :)

Here are some ways to celebrate International Women’s day:

  • Take today to do whatever makes you happy; Weather it be relaxing all day with a cup of tea and a stack of your very favorite movies or a walk in the park with your favorite pet.
  • Spend some time with your best girls. Go see a movie, Swap stories, Have lunch at an extra fancy location, Take a drive to a scenic place. Just remember, today is all about the group of you!
  • Go for a night out on the town. Wear the outfit that makes you feel most sexy and have it be a girls only celebration. It’s always empowering to walk in to (well, just about anywhere) with a group of girls. You kinda feel like you own the place and let’s face it- you do ;P
  • Spread the word! Call all the awesome ladies you know and inform them it’s National Women’s Day. It will feel good to be that messenger.
  • Call an influential person you had in your life growing up, and let them know how grateful you are to have had them help shape who you are today.
  • Help someone else! You’d be surprised how good it feels to help a fellow woman. Especially one who is still growing up. Young girls and teenagers have the media, society, and boys pulling them every which way- and most of those usually aren’t the right ways. Be a positive influence in someones life or at least offer a helping hand or a listening ear. You might just start a really nice cycle of positivity.
  • Do some research. Weather it be Wikipedia articles or a book from the library, take the time to get familiar with women’s history. It’s hard to know where you’re going if you don’t know where you came from (I know, I know awesome quote :)

However you decide to celebrate Women’s Day, make it count.
