MAC introduces: Archie’s Girls

Archie’s Girls is the newest release at MAC cosmetics. I have to say I am really impressed with the selection and can’t wait to test out some swatches for you guys.

If I was to choose one word to describe MAC, it would have to be Creative. I honestly love the collections they come out with and there is always something for everyone.

The rivalry continues between Betty and Veronica. I personally love both sets. Betty has more options for a day time look. Think Pastel Pink and Coral.  If you’re looking for a darker- more evening look, I would go with Veronica. But of course, you’re free to mix and match :)

Drew Barrymore is Having a Girl!

Drew Barrymore baby daughter expecting pregnant

I’m a long time Drew Barrymore fan. I admire her acting & directing talents along with her style and hair evolutions over the years. She’s always seemed like a really down to earth person who would also be a blast to hang out with. I would love to meet her someday.

Life & Style revealed recently that the 37-year-old actress and her fiance Will Kopelman are expecting to welcome a daughter.

“She’s having a girl,” a source close to Drew revealed along with the information that “She’s so excited.”

Just last weekend Drew and Will had a combined wedding and baby shower. This will be the first child for both of the newlyweds.

Michelle Williams Thrilled for ‘Dawson’s Creek’ Reunion

Dawson's Creek ReunionFor those of you who  know Michelle Williams best from movies: ‘My Week With Marilyn‘ and ‘Brokeback Mountain‘ you are really missing out if you’ve never seen where her stardom began. There was a little show on the WB called ‘Dawson’s Creek’ that ran from 1998 – 2003 and anyone who was anyone watched it :P

It turns out Michelle Williams is just as in love with this show as I am. After hearing of James Van Der Beek suggesting a Dawson’s Creek get together, Michelle stated:

“He has my e-mail! He has my home phone and my cell phone, so we talk. He could  totally ask! I’ve always said I’m totally up for reunion tours, reunion shows so we can do that.” According to Shine.

Incase you missed out on this epic coming of age t.v. show, it stars: James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, Michelle Williams, Kerr Smith, and Busy Philipps.

3-D Nails, the Newest Beauty Craze **Cortney Loves**

3D Nail ArtWith Summer approaching, everyone is looking for the hottest nail polish colors to wear. One manicure trend that seems to be on the rise is 3-D nails. They come in all colors and styles accented with rhinestones, beads, cabochons, and even pearls. Many women who typically go with a simple, standard manicure think 3-D nails are hot this season. Getting a manicure like this one, leaves so much room for creativity. You can do so many color combinations and even show off your favorite animated character like Hello Kitty.

Another fun option is to have just one nail on each hand 3-D while the rest of your nails are left with just color or a more simple non-3-D design. I’m hoping to get a 3-D manicure as soon as my budget allows. I think this is such a fun trend with endless possibilities for design and self expression.

Nicki Minaj to Release New Fragrance This Fall

Nicki Minaj is broadening her horizons from rap and expanding into the world of fragrance. According to WWD she will release her new scent this Fall. Minaj has reportedly linked up with Give Back Brands LLC, the same company that created a scent for Justin Bieber.

According to Vibe.com Nicki says:

“I have always been a huge fan of great fragrances. This is yet another extension of my creative expression. I designed the scent and bottle with my Barbz in mind.”

According to Shine  Nicki says: “I like scents that feel summery, but have a va-va-voom. I want to smell like a sexy and confident woman, not like candy.”

Being a fan of Nicki Minaj, i’m pretty psyched to see her bottle design and fragrance choice. something tells me the color pink might be a large element to the design…

What do you think of this news? Are you a excited, or could you care less?

Stars Who Said “NO” to Photoshop

How nice it is to see some wonderful celebrities who are more than comfortable with how they look un-retouched. Recently there were some fantastic photos released showing stars photoshop free. A few names shown were:

  • Cate Blanchettwho in my opinion looks so distinguished. I hope to pull that off at 42.
  • Taylor Swift, who appeared unretouched and 100% makeup free in People Magazine’s 2008 “100 Most Beautiful People” Issue. As if we needed another reason to love this beautiful girl.
  • Britney Spears, who is a long time face of Candies was very unhappy about the retouching done to her photos. To show how proud she was of her body, and how unrealistic ads can be, she requested the original photos be released. Check them out side by side below. You really have to pay close attention to her legs to see a barely-there difference anyway.
  • Kim Kardashian, When Complex accidentally posted an unretouched photo of her to their website, readers immediately trashed Kim for having a little cellulite. Complex replaced the photo, but Kim posted the original to her website. “So what: I have a little cellulite,” she wrote on her blog. “What curvy girl doesn’t?”

Despite certain media outlets (like Redbook magazine) insisting that their retouching of a Faith Hill photo was “completely in line with industry standards”. As if that were the point! There have been many stars who were unhappy to see their photos tinkered with.

Why do we all need to look like a Barbie doll? In the real world, who wants to resemble plastic?

In a previous article, we celebrated Elle Magazine  for featuring plus size model Tara Lynn on the front cover (typically unheard of for the majority of magazines). With changes like these on the rise, it would seem many of us are making a huge leap in the right direction. Taylor Swift No Photoshop

Sexy Prom Dresses Banned from High Schools

Schools all over are placing new restrictions on their dress code for prom. Administrators are concerned over the increase in provocative attire over the years. They feel that girls in the High School age range should dress more “appropriately” and with more… respect. This new announcement has been met with many positive reviews. Parents and Administration alike are blaming t.v. shows such as Dancing With The Stars for the increase of sexy attire.

I have to say that we’ve been pushing the limit on “over sexualized” for years now. Although, I will mention that some of the photos shown aren’t quite as bad as I was expecting. To be completely honest, every girl wants to feel beautiful at prom. While I do agree that women are WAY overly sexualized to an insane degree in the media, I don’t see anything wrong with showing  a little skin on prom night. I.E: Strapless Gowns or Dresses with Slits around mid-lower thigh level. It’s a whole different ball game if we are talking about a thin, tight dress that only extends to the very bottom of a girls butt or one that has less coverage than a bikini on top.

Girls- particularly those in High School  have so much in their face constantly reminding them that they need to exude a sexy or sexual image… I can see why they would feel a desire to wear a skimpy dress. It’s up to the parents, older siblings, and close mentors of teenage girls to promote a positive and healthy self image  and show girls how easy it is to be sexy without being sexual.

Hopefully the administrative staff of these schools will play fair. Many times administrators will go over-board with rules to the point of it being ridiculous. As i’ve stated above, I don’t think that a dress should be banned because it is strapless… just use common sense people.

Pinterest Explained. What is Pinterest and How Do I Use It?

I’ve had a lot of people asking me about Pinterest. Many wanna know what it is, how they can use it, why it’s so popular and how it can help with their business. I’m going to do a series of articles on Pinterest explaining all of these. Here is My Profile if you’d like to connect via Pinterest.

The General Idea: of Pinterest is to engage people with picture sharing. Photos are referred to as “pins”. You can create different “Pinboards” to share the photos you like from anywhere on the internet.  I have Pinboards for all different kinds of interests. One board I have is for Travel and I also have a board for inspirational Bridal photos.Whatever you’re interested in, you can create a pinboard for it on Pinterest.

Don’t be intimidated! Pinning is easy. Once you have signed up for an account with Pinterest, you can download the “Pin It” button. This is simply a button that will be displayed in your tool bar.

1) When you see a photo you think is Pin worthy, just click your new “Pin It” button and all of the photos from your current web page will be displayed.

2) Scroll over your photo of choice and  a button with the words “Pin This” will appear. Click it.

3) A small window will appear asking you to select a Pinboard and describe your pin. After you have done this, hit “Pin It’ and you’re done!

Aside from pinning photos, you can also comment on pins from other users. If you  think a particular pin is great but not necessarily “Pinboard” worthy, you may “like” it and people will see that when they visit your profile page.

Your Pinterest Profile: On your profile, you will have an option to display a photo of your choice. This is the photo everyone will associate with your account when you “like” or comment on a pin. Your profile will mainly be made up of your pinboards. Depending on your privacy settings, you can also display links to your Twitter, Website and Facebook accounts. If you want, you can also choose to hide your Pinterest profile from search engines all-together.

Underneath your photo and social networking links, will be where your recent activity is displayed. It shows when you comment or like a pin and also when someone comments or “re-pins” one of your pins. Other info you can choose to display on your profile include: “About Me” and “Location”

Currently Pinterest is “Invite Only” but if you’d like an invitation, feel free to contact me with your desired email address and I will invite you. If you’d like to check out my pins, you can visit me on Pinterest at Cortney Loves.

Levi Jeans Outrageous Definition of “Curvy”

The new ads for Levi’s Curve ID jeans were released last week. Despite my best hopes- they were a little more than disappointing. When I look at the models of these jeans, the last words I think to describe them are “curvy”. In fact, I think the only person who’d actually consider these girls curvy is Jiminy Cricket. It’s time to face the music, the average woman is a size 14- NOT a size 4.

Though the attempt may have been with the best intentions, Levis Jeans has a while to go before they realize what America means by “curvy”.  With the  print ad boasting: “Hotness comes in all shapes and sizes” I would call Levis Jeans outrageously bold. The women shown could only be a size or two apart…. and many sizes away from curvy.

While advertisers are having great difficulty these days, merchandisers seem to be profiting well. Many companies providing a wider selection of sizes for women to choose from are seeing  an increase in sales. This really comes as no surprise to me. If people can actually fit into your jeans, why wouldn’t they be more inclined to buy them?? Unfortunately magazines, posters, and billboards still see clothing as something to be “one size fits all”.
