Things I Love Thursdays

Along with the recent changes i’m working on for the new blog design, i’ve been working out a more regular schedule here at CBC. For starters, i’m a really big fan of “Things I Love Thursdays”, so I decided there was no reason not to share MY loves on Thursdays too!

I really love Tulips. I know they don’t last as long as many other flowers and I also know they are much simpler looking; but in a way I think that is part of their beauty. (Source?)

Mermaids are my absolute favorite. Her fin is so soft, it reminds me of Chiffon…. here

This pretty much sums up how I feel when looking at math problems.

I just….. LOVE this.

I wish I could teleport here every time I had a stressful thought.

Other Loves:

There are many ways you can help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. One of which is through the Red Cross foundation. Anything and everything helps.

If it was in my budget right now, I would definitely buy This Cinderella Eye Shadow Palette.

Quite possibly one of the happiest displays i’ve ever seen.

Carol’s Daughter Monoi Oil Shampoo & Conditioner Review

For those of you that don’t know, Monoi Oil is a fantastic conditioner. Leaving hair silky and much more manageable. I noticed  a difference in the health and appearance of my hair in just one use. Also check out the Monoi Oil Repairing Hair Mask by Carol’s Daughter.Oh and don’t be fooled, this set works perfectly on straight hair :)

Monoi Oil Shampoo:

I loved this shampoo because it left my hair with a beautiful shine and feeling like silk. The Hibiscus Extract helps with detangling which I always need because the length of my hair is so long. I also recommend this if you hair is short but generally hard to manage. This also has Coconut Surfactant to help cleanse. All in all, I hadn’t found a new shampoo that rivaled my regular routine one in years prior to the Carol’s Daughter Monoi Oil Shampoo.

Monoi Oil Conditioner:

To be perfectly honest, this is one of the best conditioners i’ve ever used on my hair. Just like in the shampoo, Monoi Oil condtions your hair leaving it so soft. The Bamboo Water and B5 strengthens your hair, replenishing it and helping fortify distressed hair against snaps and breakage.

 About:

The Carol’s Daughter line has a wide array of products. Everything from shampoos and conditioners to fragrance. Their mission is to create high-quality hair, body and skincare products, made with natural ingredients. I’ve been using their products for at least a year now. It’s amazing I haven’t reviewed this set sooner.

A Little History:

Founder Lisa Price began working on the products for her line in the 1980′s. In her free time she made organic beauty products in her kitchen, including pure oils such as sweet almond, jojoba, and soy. In 1993 her experimentation led to a mail-order and online business. This was followed by her first store opening in Brooklyn in 1999.

3-D Nails, the Newest Beauty Craze **Cortney Loves**

3D Nail ArtWith Summer approaching, everyone is looking for the hottest nail polish colors to wear. One manicure trend that seems to be on the rise is 3-D nails. They come in all colors and styles accented with rhinestones, beads, cabochons, and even pearls. Many women who typically go with a simple, standard manicure think 3-D nails are hot this season. Getting a manicure like this one, leaves so much room for creativity. You can do so many color combinations and even show off your favorite animated character like Hello Kitty.

Another fun option is to have just one nail on each hand 3-D while the rest of your nails are left with just color or a more simple non-3-D design. I’m hoping to get a 3-D manicure as soon as my budget allows. I think this is such a fun trend with endless possibilities for design and self expression.

How To Use Pinterest to Promote Business & Increase Brand Awareness

In my last article: Pinterest Explained. What is Pinterest and How do I use it? I described in detail how to set up your profile and I went over step by step instructions for how to “pin” something. I also included the general idea of Pinterest, how to use the site and why it’s so addicting.

Now that you know the basics, we can go over how and why to use Pinterest to promote business and increase brand awareness.

-Who can use their own photos as pins and benefit. Why?

  • Online Shop Owners: This is a great way to show people your product and grow your clientele base. Be sure to take clear- well lit photos that display your item nicely. A small business can quickly become a large brand.
  • Bloggers: When you post photos to your blog this is one of the first things people notice when visiting. Pin those photos to drive traffic to your site and get the conversation going about your articles. Someone will wanna know the story  behind that interesting pin!
  • Photographers: This is pretty obvious- but show off your awesome skills! There are many people on Pinterest getting married or hosting another event and looking for great photographers. Show them what you can do!
  • Travel Agents & Vacation Planners: show people all of the wonderful places they could be traveling.
  •  Models (experienced and aspiring): Show off your awesome portfolio with Pinterest. Let everyone see how many different looks you can achieve and confidently display your previous work experience.
  • Everyone!: If you’ve got something you want people to know about, display it in your pinboards on Pinterest.com.

-Use your pin description wisely:   This is an excellent opportunity to let everyone know: What is available, How much your product costs, If it’s on sale, How much you charge for services, If your product is cruelty free, eco friendly, etc. Be sure to put your website or social media link in your description. This is a way for people to start recognizing your company and your brand!

-Use your Pinterest profile to your Business Advantage: Make sure your profile picture is a recognizable one. Weather it be your business logo or the photo you associate with your other Media Outlets (Twitter,etc.). It should be clear to everyone who you are. Your profile displays all of your public Pin-Boards. Be sure to use that to your benefit.

A Pinterest pin can spread like a virus. I can’t tell you how many pins I see on the front page of Pinterest with multiple hundreds of ‘Re-Pins’ and ‘Likes’ within a short time span. Your goal should be to get your pins up for everyone to see! If you’d like an invite to Pinterest, just go to my Contact Page and email your chosen email address and I will invite you! :D

Pinterest Explained. What is Pinterest and How Do I Use It?

I’ve had a lot of people asking me about Pinterest. Many wanna know what it is, how they can use it, why it’s so popular and how it can help with their business. I’m going to do a series of articles on Pinterest explaining all of these. Here is My Profile if you’d like to connect via Pinterest.

The General Idea: of Pinterest is to engage people with picture sharing. Photos are referred to as “pins”. You can create different “Pinboards” to share the photos you like from anywhere on the internet.  I have Pinboards for all different kinds of interests. One board I have is for Travel and I also have a board for inspirational Bridal photos.Whatever you’re interested in, you can create a pinboard for it on Pinterest.

Don’t be intimidated! Pinning is easy. Once you have signed up for an account with Pinterest, you can download the “Pin It” button. This is simply a button that will be displayed in your tool bar.

1) When you see a photo you think is Pin worthy, just click your new “Pin It” button and all of the photos from your current web page will be displayed.

2) Scroll over your photo of choice and  a button with the words “Pin This” will appear. Click it.

3) A small window will appear asking you to select a Pinboard and describe your pin. After you have done this, hit “Pin It’ and you’re done!

Aside from pinning photos, you can also comment on pins from other users. If you  think a particular pin is great but not necessarily “Pinboard” worthy, you may “like” it and people will see that when they visit your profile page.

Your Pinterest Profile: On your profile, you will have an option to display a photo of your choice. This is the photo everyone will associate with your account when you “like” or comment on a pin. Your profile will mainly be made up of your pinboards. Depending on your privacy settings, you can also display links to your Twitter, Website and Facebook accounts. If you want, you can also choose to hide your Pinterest profile from search engines all-together.

Underneath your photo and social networking links, will be where your recent activity is displayed. It shows when you comment or like a pin and also when someone comments or “re-pins” one of your pins. Other info you can choose to display on your profile include: “About Me” and “Location”

Currently Pinterest is “Invite Only” but if you’d like an invitation, feel free to contact me with your desired email address and I will invite you. If you’d like to check out my pins, you can visit me on Pinterest at Cortney Loves.

Mi Vida Loca Palette Review by Kat Von D: Cortney Loves

Kat Von D does it again with this awesome palette.. quite possibly the best one yet. Click here to see the video including color swatches.

Here’s the skinny:

as always, Kat’s eyeshadows have little fall out. However, when it does happen it’s a little tough to get off underneath your eyes. Just use a little eye makeup remover and follow with your usual foundation routine. This palette is very vibrant so those of you looking for neutrals should stick with the Urban Decay Naked Palette.

The outside or frame of the palette is a really nice metal, sturdy enough for even the roughest girls. The rainbow design on Kat’s tattoo is a really nice image for the front of the palette. You get a full size mirror covering half the palette and a eyeliner pencil in “WONDERCHILD”. A very deep violet shade.

Colors:

  • Swan Song (Shimmery White)
  • Marya (High Shimmery Light Pink)
  • No Regrets (Magenta Shimmery but more matte than Marya)
  • Drama For Yo Mamma (Deep Purple light light Shimmer)
  • Mad Max (Matte Dark Sky Blue)
  • Dublin (Light Shimmer Light Glitter Shamrock Green)
  • Sparklehorse (High Shimmer Some Glitter Gold)
  • Altruism (Shimmery Light Gold/ Yellow. Cross between Swan Song and Sparkle Horse)

Did anyone else get this awesome palette??!
