Carol’s Daughter Monoi Oil Shampoo & Conditioner Review

For those of you that don’t know, Monoi Oil is a fantastic conditioner. Leaving hair silky and much more manageable. I noticed  a difference in the health and appearance of my hair in just one use. Also check out the Monoi Oil Repairing Hair Mask by Carol’s Daughter.Oh and don’t be fooled, this set works perfectly on straight hair :)

Monoi Oil Shampoo:

I loved this shampoo because it left my hair with a beautiful shine and feeling like silk. The Hibiscus Extract helps with detangling which I always need because the length of my hair is so long. I also recommend this if you hair is short but generally hard to manage. This also has Coconut Surfactant to help cleanse. All in all, I hadn’t found a new shampoo that rivaled my regular routine one in years prior to the Carol’s Daughter Monoi Oil Shampoo.

Monoi Oil Conditioner:

To be perfectly honest, this is one of the best conditioners i’ve ever used on my hair. Just like in the shampoo, Monoi Oil condtions your hair leaving it so soft. The Bamboo Water and B5 strengthens your hair, replenishing it and helping fortify distressed hair against snaps and breakage.

 About:

The Carol’s Daughter line has a wide array of products. Everything from shampoos and conditioners to fragrance. Their mission is to create high-quality hair, body and skincare products, made with natural ingredients. I’ve been using their products for at least a year now. It’s amazing I haven’t reviewed this set sooner.

A Little History:

Founder Lisa Price began working on the products for her line in the 1980′s. In her free time she made organic beauty products in her kitchen, including pure oils such as sweet almond, jojoba, and soy. In 1993 her experimentation led to a mail-order and online business. This was followed by her first store opening in Brooklyn in 1999.

  3. Perfect for dry/ coarse hair types
  4. Does not weigh hair down

Cons:

  1. May be over moisturizing for thin/ fine hair
  2. If your hair is extremely unmanageable, you might need a stronger formula

How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

I saw a recent article on Shine about how often you should wash your hair and decided to put my two cents in on the matter.

Here’s the Skinny: Grooming rituals involving the hair have evolved quite a bit over the years. Hundreds of years ago, women washed their hair around once a month or so. In the 50′s it was common practice for women to have their hair washed and set at a salon once a week. Now, some women wash their hair as often as twice a day (yikes!)

Haircare Broken Down: Our scalp produces a natural oil called Sebum. This works as  a great moisturizer for hair. When we wash our hair every single day we wash out the Sebum and it never gets a chance to give us any benefit. Scalp treatments and intense therapy serums are great, but sometimes you can’t make up for what nature already gave us.

The Truth: There are only a VERY rare selection of us that need to wash our hair daily. If you have an extremely oily scalp condition then it’s possible, but if a doctor hasn’t recommended it- chances are you’re good with an every other day hair washing regimen.

My Regimen: I generally give my hair 2 days in between washes, but I have a dry hair type and my hair is very long. Your needs will change depending on hair type and length. To be safe, stick to washing your hair every other day. If you’re concerned about hair-growth, try doing daily scalp massages. This can be a great way to stimulate hair growth while avoiding over-washing.

Cortney Loves (Obliphica Oil by Amika)

Although I explained a lot of details in the video Cortney Loves (Obliphica), I decided to add some more details in an article.

This is great for repairing coarse, damaged, and thick hair types.  Amika’s wonderful Obliphica oil is free of Parbens, Silicone, and Sulfates.
