MAC introduces: Archie’s Girls

Archie’s Girls is the newest release at MAC cosmetics. I have to say I am really impressed with the selection and can’t wait to test out some swatches for you guys.

If I was to choose one word to describe MAC, it would have to be Creative. I honestly love the collections they come out with and there is always something for everyone.

The rivalry continues between Betty and Veronica. I personally love both sets. Betty has more options for a day time look. Think Pastel Pink and Coral.  If you’re looking for a darker- more evening look, I would go with Veronica. But of course, you’re free to mix and match :)

2ArchiesGirls-Veronica-LineUp-300-1024x791As you can see, Archie’s Girls is super cute. If you know someone from that era, this would make a great Valentine’s Day Gift filled with nostalgia.

Things I Love Thursdays

Along with the recent changes i’m working on for the new blog design, i’ve been working out a more regular schedule here at CBC. For starters, i’m a really big fan of “Things I Love Thursdays”, so I decided there was no reason not to share MY loves on Thursdays too!

I really love Tulips. I know they don’t last as long as many other flowers and I also know they are much simpler looking; but in a way I think that is part of their beauty. (Source?)

Mermaids are my absolute favorite. Her fin is so soft, it reminds me of Chiffon…. here

This pretty much sums up how I feel when looking at math problems.

I just….. LOVE this.

I wish I could teleport here every time I had a stressful thought.

Other Loves:

There are many ways you can help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. One of which is through the Red Cross foundation. Anything and everything helps.

If it was in my budget right now, I would definitely buy This Cinderella Eye Shadow Palette.

Quite possibly one of the happiest displays i’ve ever seen.

Top Five Lipstick Shades for Winter

If you were ever in the mood to go bold with your Lipstick Color- Now is the time. Winter is a great season to show off the solid colors in your wardrobe and use contrasting lipstick colors to match. If you’re a little apprehensive about wearing bold lipstick shades, I recommend reading: Everyone Can Wear Red Lipstick- Even You!

Below are the Top 5 Lipstick Shades to wear during the Winter and Fall Months. Although there are so many beautiful colors to choose from, i’ve narrowed it down to just five. Don’t forget- if you want long lasting lipstick, be sure to use a good Lip Primer

Be sure to comment if you have any additions you feel deserved to make the list!

Cranberry

Cranberry and Burgundy shades are fantastic for this time of year. Striking against any skin tone, this color will bring a lovely “pop” to any face. I recommend wearing long lashes and subtle eyeliner with this lipstick color.

Browns

Brown shades of lipstick are often under rated. Many people gravitate toward Nude and Tan colors, but browns are a great addition to any face. Bonus: This color looks great for more “natural” looks too.

Shimmery Pinks

Don’t be fooled. Not all Winter Lipstick colors are Dark or Matte. Shimmery Pinks are beautiful, especially when paired with a creamy shimmer blush. I can’t help but think of a Winter Wonderland when I see shades like the one above.

Gold:

Over the years, Gold has gotten a bad rap. Women either think it doesn’t match their skin tone or they think it’s too flirty/too bright/ too something or another. But i’m here to tell you- it’s just fine! Gold is an excellent “highlighting” color and can be played up or down, depending on your outfit and preferences.

Black

The Winter and Fall months are by FAR the best times to wear black lipstick (In my humble opinion). You can even layer it over a deep red lipstick like the one shown above. FYI you will change your look dramatically depending on what color eyeshadow you wear, so play around and see what you like.

Thanks so much for stopping by the CBC! Here are the Top 5 Lipstick Shades for Winter & Fall. I hope you enjoyed!

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes: Reviewed

I’m super excited to tell you about the new Better Than False Lashes mascara by Too Faced. You can see the video here. This 3 step mascara packs a lot of lengthening power and just like the name says: It’s better than false lashes! For those of you familiar with the Too Faced brand- you know that they are all about color, creativity, and designing beauty goodies with fun in mind.

*The box is designed to be a nice case to hold the Activating Mascara and Nylon Lash Fibers. The front of the box is  a flap revealing the product inside.

Better Than False Lashes is a Lash Extension System with Flexistretch Nylon Fibers. You literally brush on your false lashes!

The White/ Gold color-combo is an electric pairing for any makeup bag.

This system is very easy to use, even for beginning makeup users. The 3 steps are listed for you under the box flap, but I had it memorized after about 1 use.

Steps:

  • Prime: Use the Activating Mascara (gold tube) to create a base for the Flexistretch nylon fibers; just as you would use a mascara primer.
  • Build: Brush on 1-2 coats of the Flexistretch nylon fibers (white tube) to create super long lashes.
  • Seal: Follow with the Activating Mascara one more time to seal the nylon fibers and achieve your Better Than False Lashes look.

Before

This system was easy to use and really effective. My Dad even noticed my eyes and said it was a really good product :) But you be the judge :)

Tips:
1) Be sure not to delay between applications. I’ve found that it really helps decrease your chances of clumping if you quickly apply each step after the other.
2) Use long strokes when brushing on the Flexistretch nylon fibers. This allows for a much smoother application when sealing the fibers.
Better Than False Lashes is available exclusively at Sephora until Fall 2012. Be sure to check out the new Too Faced Summer 2012 collection at TooFaced.com
*Note: Ophthalmologist Tested. This product is suitable for contact lens wearers.

Top Five Lipstick Shades for Spring

One of the hottest beauty items this spring is lipstick. Women everywhere are showing off their favorite colors with bold spring fashion. In case you were feeling a little intimidated about wearing bright colored lipstick, check out Everyone can wear red lipstick

Below are the 5 hottest lipstick colors this spring!

[  Check Out: Top 5 Lipstick Shades for Winter  ]

Honey and Champaign

These are fantastic colors to go with any complexion or hair color. You can also play up or dress down these shades for a night out or a lunch date in the afternoon.

Classic Barbie Pink

This shade just doesn’t go out of style for me. I swear I like it on everyone… not just blondes with super awesome cars and boyfriends named Ken ;P

Corals

Perfect for the classy lady or spunky girl who is always on the go. Corals can be matched with many different fashion patterns and prints. It’s really flexible if you experiment a little with it.

Magentas and Dark Pinks

These colors are so rad for the girl next door (with just a little something to hide) look :)

Oranges and Peaches

Not to be mistaken for coral shades, these are a little bit rarer to be seen worn. I have no idea why, because these are great colors that compliment many complexions. Especially fun on those with peaches & cream complexions!

Hope you enjoyed this list. Please comment below and let me know what your favorite lipstick shades for this spring are!

Favorite Beauty Products of February 2012

One of the funnest things to participate in when you have a Beauty Vlog is a monthly favorites video. This is where I get to talk about my favorite beauty products for the month and also any products I may regret purchasing. Sometimes mine won’t strictly be beauty products, I might show you a new phone case I bought and really like. It can pretty much be any product that is a current fav, but I do generally like to stick to beauty products for mine.

Here are my favorite beauty products for the month of February 2012 (all items are pictured above):

The Republic of Pink Bliss body mist in Perfect Pomegranate: This is seriously one of the best smelling body sprays I have every encountered. The scent is flirty and fresh- perfect for the upcoming Spring and Summer months! My only gripe is that lasting power, I would say the scent lasts no more than 2 hours if i’m lucky :(

CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara: Definitely a favorite mascara to keep around. Although it was a little pricier than most drug-store brand mascaras, it achieves the quality of many high end mascaras. The bristles on the brush are similar to that of  Urban Decays Skyscraper mascara. I’d say it works just as well or even better.

Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Palette: Although I’ve already done a vlog review and written an article review on this palette, it IS a current favorite, so I mentioned it again. Great colors and great quality shadows. I haven’t purchased a palette this nice in a while. The colors are PERFECT for spring.

Retreat Shea Butter and Honey Lip Butter: A great find at my local Fresh N Easy store. I just happened to walk by and see this sitting on the shelf, and I liked the “natural” look it had. Simple look, but a really good lip butter. I use it to prime my lips for lipstick and lipgloss and I also like to wear it by itself to give my lips a light sheen.

L’Occitane Hand Cream: Typically I don’t use hand creams. I can’t stand any type of greasy residue on my hands so I don’t generally seek out lotions for them. I just happened to sample this at Sephora and was really impressed. It leaves a light and soft feel to my hands. It’s not greasy or wet feeling and it has a very light scent. Nothing too distracting.

Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer: To put it simply- this is a really nice lip primer. I use this to avoid “eraser marks” on my lips after applying lipstick and it’s also a nice “go between” when wearing lipgloss (it helps my lips feel less sticky from the gloss). Lip Insurance definitely does it’s job extending the life of lip products.

Lorac TANtilizer Baked Bronzer: Amazingly enough, this was a BirchBox item. Every other month I tend to get a product that I really love from BirchBox (more on that in another article, another day). One month, it was this and I have re-fallen in love with it this February. It has a really nice “vanilla sheen” to it and is very long lasting… I would definitely say this is a must have for Spring and Summer.

I’m always excited to hear what everyone else’s favorites are, comment and let me know!

Mi Vida Loca Palette Review by Kat Von D: Cortney Loves

Kat Von D does it again with this awesome palette.. quite possibly the best one yet. Click here to see the video including color swatches.

Here’s the skinny:

as always, Kat’s eyeshadows have little fall out. However, when it does happen it’s a little tough to get off underneath your eyes. Just use a little eye makeup remover and follow with your usual foundation routine. This palette is very vibrant so those of you looking for neutrals should stick with the Urban Decay Naked Palette.

The outside or frame of the palette is a really nice metal, sturdy enough for even the roughest girls. The rainbow design on Kat’s tattoo is a really nice image for the front of the palette. You get a full size mirror covering half the palette and a eyeliner pencil in “WONDERCHILD”. A very deep violet shade.

Colors:

  • Swan Song (Shimmery White)
  • Marya (High Shimmery Light Pink)
  • No Regrets (Magenta Shimmery but more matte than Marya)
  • Drama For Yo Mamma (Deep Purple light light Shimmer)
  • Mad Max (Matte Dark Sky Blue)
  • Dublin (Light Shimmer Light Glitter Shamrock Green)
  • Sparklehorse (High Shimmer Some Glitter Gold)
  • Altruism (Shimmery Light Gold/ Yellow. Cross between Swan Song and Sparkle Horse)

Did anyone else get this awesome palette??!
