Best Ways to Kick a Summer Cold

Getting Over Cold SicknessWhen most of us imagine  getting sick, we think of cold weather during the winter months. While it’s very common to get sick in the winter, cold viruses can strike when it’s hot too. It’s hard to feel like a beauty queen when you’re run down from being sick; I’m on the tail end of a summer cold myself and decided to post some helpful ways to get rid of your cold:

[Check Out: 3 Beauty Essentials for Summer]

Increase your Vitamin C intake:

This will help fight the virus and get rid of your summer cold quickly. Be sure to drink lots of orange juice (real orange juice- not a sugary orange substitute) and take Vitamin C supplements. I like Emergen-C. This can be found at your local Whole Foods market and many other grocery stores too.

Drink Plenty of Water:

You need lots of fresh fluids to help flush toxins from your system. The most important beverage Americans don’t get enough of is water. We are supposed to consume at least 8 glasses of water each day; and that’s when we’re in tip-top shape!

Drink Hot Tea:

Drinking tea already comes with so many benefits. With it’s antioxidants and naturally soothing qualities, tea should be a daily beverage for everyone. There’s nothing better to soothe a sore throat or ease an aching cough than a hot cup of tea. If you feel tea is a bit too bitter for you, try adding some creamer or a just a bit of sugar to your cup.

Avoid Salt and Sugar:

These are major culprits for dehydration and let’s face it, it was hard enough to drink those 8 glasses of water- don’t make your life more difficult by adding extra salt to your diet. It’s important to stay hydrated while you’re under the weather.

Get Some Rest:

This can seem nearly impossible in the year 2012. We are all so busy trying to beat the bad economy and stay connected with technology, it seems like there is no time to stop at all. Luckily the answer is just to be a little creative. Some examples would be:

  1. Skipping the nail appointment you had planned. Instead just use that time to relax at home.
  2. Quit channel surfing an hour early. An extra hour of shut-eye can really make a difference in your energy level the next day.
  3. If at all possible, stop rushing everywhere you go. Try to keep a steady pace throughout the day during times when you aren’t able to just relax. This will help your body tremendously.

I hope you found these tips useful.
